VALOUR PSYCHOLOGICAL SERVICES IS A NICHE PRIVATE PRACTICE ESTABLISHED TO EXCLUSIVELY SERVE ACTIVE OR RETIRED CAF, RCMP, AND PROVINCIAL POLICE MEMBERS IN NOVA SCOTIA.

Dr. Hayley Ellwood is a registered Clinical Psychologist with extensive experience completing diagnostic assessment and treatment of military and law enforcement members.

After completing her doctoral training in Texas where she worked directly with law enforcement responding to mental health crises, she returned home to Nova Scotia and has built a reputation for quality, accuracy, and integrity across private practice and multidisciplinary clinics. Dr. Ellwood's experience includes individual and group treatment of military/law enforcement members and Veterans, roles within VAC's vocational rehabilitation program, delivery of VAC mental health pension assessments, assessments and supportive letters of opinion for VAC's Bureau of Pension Advocates (BPA), Diminished Earning Capacity (DEC) functional assessments, and involvement in WCB's Traumatic Psychological Injury program. Dr. Ellwood has a strong track record for helping her clients achieve full resolution of Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), and the responsiveness of this condition to treatment is what makes her work so incredibly rewarding.

Dr. Ellwood developed Valour Psychological Services in order to establish a source of service-delivery and experience for this population who, unfortunately, often have their recovery potential limited by conflicting broad-scale interests. She operates from the belief that those willing to sacrifice their own physical and emotional wellbeing to protect Canadians deserve to receive nothing but evidence-based care and scientifically accurate direction to guide their recovery.

You will experience Dr. Ellwood as non-judgmental, authentic, and having a quiet strength that allows you to share your sources of shame, guilt, anxiety, anger, and sadness without censorship. You'll quickly understand why you've been suffering, feel reassured by learning that your pain is commensurate to your ability to heal, hopeful about the changes ahead, and be guided to the nearest 'EXIT' out of the circuit keeping you stuck.

Dr. Ellwood has completed advanced training in the Unified Protocol for the Transdiagnostic Treatment of Emotional Disorders (UP) through Boston University, and is currently undergoing further certification in Somatic Experiencing (SE). This, combined with her early practice years delivering Prolonged Exposure Therapy (PE), ensures that no stone is left unturned on your path to emotional wellness.
